International SEO
Expanding abroad starts with being found there
Ranking in the UK does not mean you will be found in Germany, the Netherlands or the US. Buyers abroad search in their own language, use different terms and expect local prices, units and contact details.
International SEO sets your website up for each market: the right URL structure, hreflang tags so Google shows the right version, localised content and authority built within each country. We start with where the demand is, so you invest in the markets most likely to pay back.
Who it’s for
Is international SEO right for you?
- UK businesses expanding into Europe or further afield
- Exporters and manufacturers with overseas distributors or trade buyers
- Sites with several country or language versions showing in the wrong places
- Online stores selling internationally in more than one currency
What’s included
What our international SEO includes
-
Market and keyword research
Finding what buyers in each country actually search for, and how much demand there is, before you commit budget to a market.
-
Hreflang tags
Telling search engines which language and country each page targets, so visitors see the right version for where they are.
-
URL structure
Advice on country domains, subdirectories or subdomains, based on your markets, resources and how your business is set up abroad.
-
Localised content
Translation and localisation that reflects each market's language, culture, currency, units, phone numbers and addresses.
-
International authority
Building links and coverage within each target country, from relevant directories to digital PR pieces aimed at local media.
-
Performance abroad
Using a content delivery network and speed work so pages load quickly for visitors far from your server.
Our approach
How we work

-
Market research
We look at demand, competition and how rivals in each country present themselves before recommending where to start.
-
Structure
We agree the URL structure and hreflang setup, and fix any existing international issues.
-
Localise
Content adapted for each market, not just translated word for word.
-
Build authority
Links and coverage within each target country to build credibility there.
-
Measure by market
Reporting on visibility, traffic and enquiries country by country.
What clients say
Having worked with several SEO agencies in the past, OMS stands out as best-in-class in terms of their proactiveness and results, which has led to a significant increase in web visits and leads. We recently had their support in pushing our services across the Netherlands, and how they optimised the website for the country drove a lot of enquiries.
Why OMS
Why businesses choose us
-
Technical and content together
Hreflang and URL structure only work if the content is right, and vice versa. We handle both in-house.
-
Honest about markets
If the search demand in a country does not justify the investment, we will tell you before you spend.
-
Measured by country
You see enquiries and sales from each market, so you know where to invest more.

What is international SEO?
It is optimising a website so it is visible in search results across different countries and languages. That covers technical setup, such as hreflang and URL structure, plus research into what people search for in each market, localised content and building authority within each country.
What URL structure should an international site use?
The main options are country domains (example.de), subdirectories (example.com/de/) and subdomains (de.example.com). Each has trade-offs in cost, authority and management. The right choice depends on how many markets you target and how independent each operation is. We will recommend one based on your plans.
Do you translate content?
Translation and localisation are part of the service. Direct translation is rarely enough, because buyers in each market use different terms. We research local searches first, then adapt content so it reads naturally and reflects local currency, units and expectations.
How quickly will we see results from international SEO?
It depends on the markets, competition and how much is already in place. Early signs can appear within a few months, with more meaningful results typically taking longer. We would rather set realistic expectations market by market than promise a date.
We already rank in the UK. Will that help abroad?
Some of your authority carries over, but not all of it. Links from UK sites help less in other countries, and your UK content will not match how overseas buyers search. Most businesses need country-specific work to compete properly.
